A Creative Proposal
How the world actually moves from fossil fuels to clean energy, and how fast that can realistically happen. A film ready for the moment a funded project makes it possible โ with a clear picture of how we work and what it costs.

About Scrolly Science
Scrolly Science is the specialist science-communication brand of Animara Studios Ltd. We work with researchers to turn complex findings into clear films that reach the public and the people who make policy.
Our reading of the brief
What We Heard
You want your research to travel further than your own LinkedIn posts can carry it. You've done the outreach yourself to date, a few podcasts and regular posts, and you can see how a film would lift a piece of research in front of a much wider audience.
Energy transition research
The Work
Your field is one the public and policymakers genuinely need help with: how the world actually moves from fossil fuels to clean energy, and how fast that can realistically happen. It's a subject where the honest, evidence-based answer often differs from the headline one, which is exactly where good communication earns its place.
Your published work on the growth of wind and solar power is a strong example of that. By looking at how quickly these technologies have actually grown in the countries that led the way, and projecting from that real history rather than from optimism, it gives a grounded sense of what the energy transition can and can't deliver on a given timeline. That's the kind of finding that changes how a target is set, and it deserves an audience well beyond the people who read the journal.
We want to be clear that this is an illustration of the sort of work we could help with, not an assumption about the film you'll make. The subject would be yours to choose when the time comes.

Wind and solar pace | Illustrative draft ยท 60 seconds
The Script
Because the topic is still open, this is an illustration rather than a proposed film. It takes your published wind and solar projections work and shows how we'd shape a finding like it into 60 seconds. The visual column stays broad on purpose โ a direction rather than a shot list.

Visual
Voiceover
0:00โ0:12 ยท The hook
A clean energy scene at scale: turbines and solar farms, growing across a horizon.
Wind and solar are growing faster than anything else in our energy system. Which raises the real question: how fast can they actually grow?
0:12โ0:24 ยท The assumption
A climate target glows on a chart, resting on a steep, optimistic curve.
A lot of our climate plans assume these technologies will scale at breakneck speed. If that assumption is off, so are the targets built on top of it.
0:24โ0:40 ยท The method
We lay historical growth curves from the countries that led the way over the optimistic one.
So instead of guessing, we can look at how fast wind and solar have really grown where they took off first, and use that history to project what's realistic.
0:40โ0:52 ยท What it tells us
The grounded projection settles in: fast growth, but short of the steepest hopes.
The evidence points to growth that's genuinely fast, yet slower than the most optimistic scenarios assume. And knowing the real pace is how you set targets that hold.
0:52โ1:00 ยท The close
The research itself on screen, with a prompt to read, share and discuss.
Planning the energy transition honestly starts with being honest about its speed. Read the work, and tell us what you think.
An illustration, open to refinement together. The real subject, message and audience would be chosen with you once a project is funded, and any scientific claim checked against the paper first.
Look and feel
Visual Direction
Two possible visual directions for a future 60-second film. The accompanying illustration is a concept example, not a proposed final scene or a decision about the film's subject. We can shape the treatment around the research, audience and funding available once a project is confirmed.
Option 1: Hybrid mixed media
Recommended for flexible, public-facing storytelling
This approach combines motion design, carefully selected footage and AI-assisted mixed-media elements under our creative direction. It offers flexibility to move between real-world energy infrastructure, people, maps and research data. For a public or policy audience, it can make a complex finding accessible and engaging without committing to a single visual language.
Option 2: Crafted 2D / hybrid isometric
Illustration-led energy systems
A more deliberately designed, illustration-led route, combining crafted 2D motion graphics with isometric or 2.5D scenes where a sense of depth is useful. Animated connections, camera movement and transitions could reveal how offshore wind, solar, hydro, storage, hydrogen and end users relate, while charts and key findings remain clear. Particularly suited to explaining interconnected energy systems and infrastructure. Reference: youtube.com/watch?v=FDjQIWDcvGw

Deliverables
What We Will Build
For a future film, once a topic and funding are in place, a typical project would include:
01 / Master film
One 60-second film
Visual treatment agreed together: Hybrid mixed media or Crafted 2D / hybrid isometric design. Professionally recorded voiceover, finished animation, delivered in full resolution.
02 / Script and storyboard
Full script development around your finding
Built with you, refined until every line earns its place, then a scene-by-scene storyboard so you see the film whole before production starts.
03 / Footage and production
Any footage sourced by us
Sam has confirmed we can handle footage sourcing as part of the project, so there's nothing for you to supply or buy separately. Clear review points throughout.
04 / Distribution and report
Social distribution with performance report
Distribution across social media, with a report afterwards on impressions and engagement โ useful evidence for funding bodies.
Four stages
How We Work
Four stages, each with a clear review point, led by Dr Sam Crossley. Your time commitment across the whole project is only a few hours.
Script
01
We agree the finding and the message, then write a script around it. You review and approve before anything moves on.
Storyboard
02
We map the film scene by scene, so you can see it whole before production starts. Changes are easy and cheap at this stage.
Production
03
We produce the animation and the voiceover. A hybrid 2D film runs roughly two to three weeks once the script is agreed.
Distribution and reporting
04
We deliver the film, distribute it across the channels that fit, and report back on how it performed. Any call along the way is a Microsoft Teams call.
Timing
Why Now
We understand that this isn't the moment to commission anything. The reason to have this in hand is timing of a different kind.
What it costs
Investment
The quoted price includes distribution and the follow-up report, and it covers footage sourcing, so there are no hidden extras to supply or buy. Each quote includes the 10% academic reduction. The Hybrid tier sits at a lower price point than Crafted 2D, which gives room to match the approach to the budget a funded project allows.
Hybrid mixed media
ยฃ3,395 GBP ยท โฌ4,052 EUR
60-second film with motion design, selected footage and AI-assisted mixed-media under our creative direction. Includes script, storyboard, voiceover, distribution and performance report.
Crafted 2D
ยฃ4,142 GBP ยท โฌ4,944 EUR
60-second illustration-led 2D production. Includes script, storyboard, voiceover, distribution and performance report.

60-second 2D / 2.5D isometric treatment for interconnected energy systems. Includes script, storyboard, voiceover, distribution and performance report.
We'd confirm a firm figure once a topic and scope are chosen.
VAT is added where applicable.
You own the finished work outright, with no licensing restrictions or ongoing fees.
Path forward
Next Steps
David will send a short follow-up pack this week: links to the two example films we discussed, a pricing summary, and a recent impressions report you can draw on for funding applications.
Follow-up pack
01
Example films, pricing summary, and an impressions report you can attach to grant applications.
Named as partner
02
If it helps, we're happy to be named as a communications partner in your Horizon Europe and other grant proposals.
Stay in touch
03
We'll stay in touch as the funding situation develops, with no pressure in the meantime.
When a project lands
04
A short Microsoft Teams call to choose the finding and shape the film.
